The internet offers a variety of news and information sites, especially for the LGBT community. The Washington Blade, for example, has a history that spans over 50 years. The newspaper began as a one-page newsletter and survived bankruptcy, becoming a daily print and online publication that covers LGBT politics, pop culture, science, local LGBTQ events, and the world at large. It is free to subscribe and read. Its editorial board is composed of members of the LGBT community.

Facebook is one of the easiest ways to find LGBTQ+ friends online, but there are a number of other options. You can keep your identity a secret or pretend to be someone else to avoid unwanted attention. Safe Place is an online community that helps young people deal with problems, whether they are gay, lesbian, or straight.

In addition to helping the LGBTQ community, QSpot aims to promote the well-being, pride, and health of the local LGBT community. It does so by providing resources, referrals, and education for the LGBT community. The ACLU’s LGBT & AIDS Project works to create a society where LGBT people enjoy constitutional rights. GLAD, the gay & lesbian legal rights organization, is New England’s largest legal rights organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. Among the many websites dedicated to the LGBT community, Lambda is an internationally renowned legal organization. Its mission is to protect the civil rights of LGB people and the lives of LGBT individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Its sister organization, the LGIRTF, focuses on the health and well-being of bisexual and transgender immigrants and other sexual orientation-based asylum seekers. Another important organization is the NCLR, a national research and education center dedicated to ensuring that LGBT people are safe in all aspects of their lives.

A few other LGBT organizations you might want to check out are the GLAAD and the GLMA. Both organizations have made significant contributions to LGB media representation. As you’ll see, there’s even a gay parent magazine and a national LGBT parent advocacy organization called GEA.
